How Serpent became Satan.
Are snakes bad or evil because one tricked Adam and Eve into sinning? Short answer: No. Satan used the snake to do this. Satan is our true enemy, not snakes. Long answer: Satan was using the snake. Satan and his workers have at times entered an animal or human and done their dirty work through them. Because a snake was used to do this, the curse of sin fell on the snake in a very noticeable way. Listen to what God said to the serpent in Genesis 3:14: “Then the LORD God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live.’” But even in the snake’s broken state, cursed by sin, we see God’s mercy. God gave snakes built-in glasses to protect their eyes from the dust and dirt! And Isaiah 11:8 talks about a time when, “A baby will be able to play near a cobra’s hole, and a child will be able to put his hand into the nest of a poisonous snake.” God’s g...
